There are water sports on almost every beach, including surfing, windsurfing, parasailing, sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, dolphin-watching and swimming. Scuba diving is very popular with many people as you can swim with dolphins, look at the amazing coral reef formations, swim with turtles, see shipwrecks or look at the various types of tropical fish. If you prefer to stay out of the water then you can spend your time sunbathing on the sandy beaches or playing volleyball. There is plenty for you to do in the various cities in Australia including visiting many of the famous sights such as the Sydney Opera House. Sydney's famous harbour is a must-see as are the gardens and cathedrals of Brisbane and the theme parks of the Gold Coast. Dreamworld is a brilliant theme park with plenty of virtual reality rides to keep you entertained. As well as this, you can visit Sea World where you can swim with dolphins or visit Warner Bros Movie World where you can watch future movies being made. Safari's are popular as are the many wildlife parks where you can see a wide variety of animals as well as hold koala bears. Hot Air Balloon rides and bike rides are popular things to do in Alice Springs and appeal to people of all ages. There is so much to see in Australia that it is hard to know where to stop. One of the most iconic spots is Sydney harbour where you can see the very unique opera house. Ayers Rock is also a must see with the red and oranges of the sun being absorbed. Spotting koalas, kangaroos and emus is always a favourite among many tourists as is taking in the breathtaking landscape around them.
Australia – a wide variety of cuisines available
There are hundreds of restaurants in Australia with a variety of cuisines such as Chinese, Italian, French, Indian, English, American and of course Australian. There are also plenty of places to try wine-tasting and wonderful places to sit and eat picnics while looking out on to the breath-taking scenery. Sydney has a brilliant nightlife with a number of bars and clubs for you to enjoy through the night. Melbourne is a brilliant place to go for shopping as you will find a number of designer boutiques for you to enjoy. Buses and taxis are available in Australia and unlike in many countries, taxis do not expect tips. In hotels in restaurants it is usual to tip around 10% of the bill but this is not a general custom.
Australia Weather and Climate
Australia has different weather in both the north and the south. The coldest month in Australia is July, with the warmest months bring January and February in the south and December in the north. The average annual rainfall differs in all areas with the north receiving most of their rain in the summer months and the south being at its wettest in the winter months. Temperatures vary from 0°C up to 51°C depending on where you are. Australia is a popular destination and when the sun is shining, it can get very hot, which is what makes it even more appealing. It is cooler in the shade and along the coast, however it can still be very hot. The seasons in Australia are opposite to those in Europe and North America. There are two zones in Australia, known as the tropical zone and the temperature zone. The tropical zone has two seasons, summer which is wet and winter which is dry. The temperature zone has all four seasons. Spring to summer is hot with hot or mild temperatures at night. Autumn to winter consists of warm days and cool nights with rain and sunshine. Lightweight clothing is needed in the summer and warmer clothes are needed in the winter in the southern states. In the north, light clothing is more likely to be worn all year round.
