British Airways has released a list of destinations proving popular with those seeking to escape a mediocre British summer.
Brits have been booking up last-minute holidays for August as weather conditions at home fail to improve, and destinations across Europe, North America, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean are benefitting from our misfortunes. UK holidaymakers seeking a break relatively close to home are looking for cheap holidays to Spain in the form of city breaks to Barcelona, or are heading to Venice or Rome.
Florida is proving a popular option for those looking to soak up some sunshine in the southerly Us state, with BA saying flights to Orlando and newly-added destination Tampa were in demand. City breaks to New York and Las Vegas were also popular for Brits willing to cross the Atlantic. Claire Bentley, managing director at British Airways Holidays, said that the carrier was seeing a boost in demand for many destinations as Brits take their chance to leave the country.
“Yet again the Great British summer has proved a complete wash out so we are seeing a heavy demand from our UK customers for last minute overseas holidays,” said Ms Bentley. “Thanks to a range of new leisure destinations, including Marrakech, and even more flights to the always popular Caribbean, customers are sure to find that British Airways can help them get away for their perfect summer holiday,” she added.
Travellers looking for more exotic locations were said to be booking last-minute trips to destinations such as Mauritius, St Lucia and Barbados, while closer to home the island of Jersey was also seeing an influx of last-minute bookings.
