Short Breaks in Spain to Suit All Tastes

Spain comes up as the UK’s favourite holiday destination year after year thanks to its closeness to British shores, the abundance of cheap flights and the plentiful sunshine that greets sun-starved Brits upon arrival.

With the summer holidays over for most, many will now be looking for inspiring short breaks to see them through until their next major holiday. Spain offers a wide range of short break options to suit a variety of interests and requirements, and with so many flights on offer from regional airports in the UK, it’s easy to hop on a plane and back without denting the holiday allowance too heavily.

For those looking for an upbeat break in the sun, Ibiza offers more than just the clubbing experience usually associated with the island. The Ibiza Rocks festival runs every year between July and September, and offers a big name artist playing every Wednesday. So far the 2011 festival has seen Friendly Fires, Plan B and Dizzee Rascal gracing the stage.

Golfers grabbing cheap flights to the Costa del Sol will find 45 courses to choose from upon arrival, meaning even a short break can fit in a good variety of different courses. With four of the 45 courses being ranked as among the ten best golf courses in Europe, even the most adept players will find something to get their teeth into. Non-golfers will also find plenty of activities to keep them occupied, with tennis, spas, sailing courses and horse riding being but a few of the options on offer in the Spanish sun.

History fans might want to try staying at one of Spain’s state-run hotels based in historical buildings. The oldest of these is the Parador de Santiago de Compostela – now a luxurious five star property but originally a humble hostel for pilgrims when built in 1499.
