The Hotel Okura in Tokyo picked up one of the prestigious Commitment to Excellence Awards at the fourth annual ‘Leading Hotel of the World’ awards ceremony in Venice. The award is presented to a hotel whose service extends beyond the walls of the building and who continuously promote an exceptional effort to maintaining the environment, community outreach and cultural support.
The Hotel Okura Tokyo was crowned a worthy winner having led a number of charitable programmes promoting music and the arts. The hotel hosts the annual ‘Charity Art Collection Exhibition’ which takes place in August each year. This event brings together works of art owned by companies and individuals that are rarely viewed and exhibits them in aid of the Japanese Red Cross. The even it now in its 15th year and has already raised a large amount of money for the cause.
The hotel also hosts the monthly ‘Lobby Concert 25’ a free concert which showcases a variety of musicians playing classical pieces. Each year, two of the musicians are presented with the ‘Hotel Okura Music Award’ along with a grant and a supplementary prize.
Along with these events the hotel also hosts the annual ‘World Gardening Fair’, the wives of ten Ambassadors are invited to create unique gardens that represent the culture of their respective countries. The gardens are displayed at the end of April and money raised goes to the Save the Children foundation.
The Hotel Okura Tokyo is located in the heart of the Japanese capital and is one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks.
