Travel publisher Hg2 has put together a list of top travel destinations for 2012, and has highlighted Toronto as a particularly good choice thanks to the opening of some new accommodation options.
Hg2 publishes the popular travel series ‘A Hedonist’s Guide to…’ and put together a list of hotspots for travellers in 2012. Toronto was highlighted as it will be offering some new hotels for visitors to enjoy next year, including the Trump Tower and Shangri-La hotels. Events such as the Toronto International Film Festival will also draw huge numbers of international visitors, and create the perfect excuse to pay a visit to the Canadian city.
The Colombian capital Bogota also won a mention in the list of top destinations, and was highlighted for the variety and quality of sights and experiences available there. Hg2 pointed out the city’s “rich cultural offerings, mouth-watering foods and lively party scene,” making it an ideal choice for a city break with a difference, away from the more traditional city break destinations like New York and Paris. Bogota offers impressive architecture, from towering skyscrapers to the kaleidoscopic colours of the city’s colonial houses, and the city was said to be recovering well from years of struggles with violent crime and drug-related problems.
Travellers with a ‘been there done that’ attitude were advised to check out the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan, while those searching for a holiday destination offering an “urban edge and gritty-cool party scene” were pointed towards Johannesburg in South Africa. New Orleans also made the list, thanks to its successful recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
