Publisher DK Travel has launched a useful new resource for holidaymakers looking to chase down some of the world’s sunniest spots at various times of the year.
The Chase the Sun Planner shows the top spots for each month of the year, with a couple of surprise locations making the top twelve monthly hotspots. The sunniest destination for June is the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, while Havana in Cuba comes top for sunshine during the month of November.
UK travellers looking for a pick-me-up during the gloomy autumn months will find Fuerteventura holidays the best option for October, while Egypt holidays in The Nile Valley prove best for December sunshine. Other top winter sun destinations include Perth, Australia during February and Treasure Beach in Jamaica in January. The spring requires sun worshippers to travel further afield to catch the best rays, with Honolulu in Hawaii coming top for March and Ko Samui in Thailand enjoying the best weather in April.
Moving into May, Brits will start to find sunny destinations closer to home, with Crete holidays the best bet for May, promising an average of ten hours sunshine per day and average temperatures of 20°C. Later in the summer, European destinations such as the Amalfi Coast in Italy and St Tropez in France come out top for sunshine in July and August respectively. Each achieves world-beating average temperatures of 27°C and ten hours of sunshine per day for those months.
The Moroccan city of Fes completes the list as the top destination for September, thanks to 26°C average temperatures and 9 hours of sun on average per day. The historical city supplies a wealth of historical, culinary and architectural delights for travellers, and with temperatures reaching as high as 32°C some days, the weather is unlikely to disappoint.
