Tourism Firm Launches Travel App
Tourism is really stepping into the digital age as The American Virginia Tourism Corporation launches an iPhone application this week which offers immediate travel and tourism information about the state. Details on attractions, accommodation and travel routes are all immediately available with the app which was created in partnership with marketing firm eBrains. The application is currently free with the iPhone and includes maps and directions to all of the popular sightseeing spots in Virginia. Richard Lewis, press relations manager at the Virginia Tourism Corporation has expressed his excitement about the app stating that “The app will help consumers know there is a resource available right at their fingertips without having to go to secondary resources,” The introduction of this readily accessible travel guide could herald the decline of traditional formats such as paper travel guides and books.
The application also gives users access to points of interest near their geographical location whilst also listing all of the different municipalities and cities in the state. Information on upcoming events and celebrations in Virginia is also within the app with an e-commerce element that will direct users to sites where they can book tickets or make reservations. Tourism marketers are expected to merge with the Virginia Tourism Corporation via special promotional packages offering discounts via text message. Users can even leave reviews of places where they have stayed to enlighten other application users. The app is targeted at first time visitors to the state with all of the basic information ready to be viewed. The introduction of this new digital tourism guide is surely set to catch on with other tourism boards across the US and possibly the world.
