Bulgaria – plenty to see and do
Swimming is popular in the Black Sea in one of the beach resorts. The coastline is stunning and sees hundreds of people flocking to it every year. During the winter months you can enjoy skiing along the sloped of Bansko, Pamporovo or Borovets. The Rila Mountains in Borovets are the countries oldest and largest mountains, adding to the enjoyment of skiing. Hiking has become hugely popular in Bulgaria, with plenty of pathways and mountains to climb. Horse-riding and mountain biking are also popular and definitely recommended. If you prefer to relax and be less active then why not try one of the spas. There are also a few national parks to be explored. There are plenty of historical buildings for you to explore such as, museums, churches, galleries and older houses.
Bulgaria – plenty of places to eat and drink
Bulgaria is full of restaurants, many of which have traditional music and dancing sections. There is plenty to choose from, however most meals begin with a salad and then include meat, potatoes and cheese. There are plenty of national dishes, however you will also find, English and German cuisines in come areas. Nightlife in Bulgaria varies in different resorts. Sofia, Bourgas and Plovdiv among others are very lively, with bars and clubs open until the early hours of the morning. If you prefer something slightly quieter, then the Opera House in Sofia comes recommended as does the dancing in one of the many restaurants. When it comes to shopping in Bulgaria, you will find clothing, shoes, crafts, wines, jewellery and plenty of confectionery.
Bulgaria Weather and Climate
The warmest month in Bulgaria is July, where temperatures can reach around 30°C and you can enjoy eleven hours of sunshine a day. It is very hot and dry in the summer, with coastal breezes that keep the levels of humidity down. There is the possibility of some light showers in the summer however this is not a regular ocurrence. During the winter months, Bulgaria is much cooler and some resorts get heavy snowfall, making them perfect for skiing. January and February are the coldest months in Bulgaria, with temperatures of around 5°C and three to four hours of sunshine. During the spring months, you can enjoy five to six hours of sunshine a day, with temperatures averaging at around 12°C.
