Holidays in Cala Alcaufar - What We Know

Cala Alcaufar is a picturesque fishing village so for people looking for a quiet holiday, families and couples mainly, Cala Alcaufar is the resort. It is an ideal place to get away from it all. The resort is located on the island of Menorca and is a mid to upmarket resort. The transfer time from the airport to the resort is around 30 minutes and a good tip is to use this time to check out the scenery and get a picture of the location and the resort you’ll be staying in.

The main beach in the area is fairly small but is a nicely sheltered cove and perfect for relaxing with. For those with children the cove is quite safe for them to play in.

Hotels and apartments in the area are around 3-5 star and have all the necessary facilities and services. You can also find a few privately owned villas around the resort.

Cala Alcaufar - Sights And Activities

The resort is family based and has a quiet relaxing feel to it so unless you partake in the excursions available you will need to make your own entertainment. There are however, many attractions in Cala Alcaufar. Boat trips are popular with holiday makers taking you along the islands coastline. Available in other nearby resorts you have other water sports. Other excursions include prehistoric monuments, walking, bird-watching, golf and a trip to El Toro’s hilltop sanctuary.

Mahon, the islands capital, has a wide variety of designer labels for the shopper in you and local craft goods, which make great gifts by the way.

Cala Alcaufar leaves the extravagant lures to its neighbouring islands; life here is about the simple things like enjoying the sun on the beach with your feet dipping in the shallows.

Cala Alcaufar – Food And Nightlife

Cala Alcaufar holidays

The variety of dishes may not be too great, but it still provides good local cuisine shaped by the island fishing culture. The food is all reasonably priced and the main food you’ll find will be Spanish orientated, such as Tapas. For a better variety of food you will need to travel outside of the resort; unfortunately Mahon would be the best choice. The resort is mainly for people who are looking to self cater and therefore the lack of choice in the village is apparent.

As for nightlife in the resort of Cala Alcaufar you will be limited to entertainment from hotels with things like karaoke and cabaret and similar live shows. Light entertainment can be found in and around the village in the bars locally. For a bigger night, perhaps, you will want to head into Mahon. The island’s capital offers a more lively night with many bars to visit with live music playing providing a better nightlife experience.

If you won’t be hiring a car, the public transport system is very good and you’ll able to travel to other areas of the island to better your experience. There is also a day trip of Menorca available showing you the key sights of the island.

Weather and Climate

Like all areas of the island Cala Alcaufer suffers from warm summers, clear blue skies and seemingly endless hours of sunshine. Sea breezes do sweep in but don’t be alarmed as they merely compliment the high temperatures. Those temperatures will reach to around 30°C during the peak periods of summer which fall between July and September. The island sees little rain during this period supporting the fact that this is a popular destination.

The weather is so good here even the winter time stays quite mild, despite a patch of light rain here and there. The winter period halves the winter temperatures but this only lasts between December and January. Temperatures climb back up around March time.
