Only a few kilometres south from Majorca’s capital Palma, Cala Mayor is a large residential area having once been a place where the night life never ended. Cala Mayor has had a fair bit of money spent on it over the years as it has been transformed with many palm trees planted, its beach extended and a 5 star hotel opened. Other hotels in the area are rated 2 stars and above. This resort becomes quite busy during the summer attracting couples rather than families.

Cala Mayor has great accommodations and good facilities. The resort is visited by none other than the King of Spain where he welcomes foreign dignitaries, giving an idea to the draw of the resort home to a great beach and beautiful views. There’s only a 30 minute transfer from the airport.

Cala Mayor – Fun and Activities

Cala Mayor might not be blessed with many activities but it is on an island full of resorts that do. Cala Mayor has a large art collection that includes many sculptures and paintings, which interest many tourists. There are also a few local excursions such as trips to the caves of Drach in the resort of Porto Cristo. Nearby Palma Nova and Magaluf are filled with fun activities for everyone such as water sports.

You can expect great weather and sunbathing is an obvious activity but nevertheless is one of the main reason this is a much visited resort.

There are many shops in Cala Mayor providing the essential things and then souvenir shops for gifts selling locally made leather items and such. Palma is only a short bus trip away on the very good and reliable public transport system, and there you will be able to buy more specialised items along with brand names.

Cala Mayor – Food and Nightlife

Cala Major offers a nice choice of restaurants serving traditional as well as international dishes. Fish features strongly on most menus and there are some exceptional fish restaurants overlooking the bay. Sample some local food in the Tapas restaurants as they offer good variety in small dishes.

Nightlife in Cala Major is very low-key and mainly hotel based. Bar and restaurants make for good venues to enjoy a pleasant night with drinks and conversation. If you’re looking for something a little more then hop into a taxi and make the short journey in Palma or better yet Magaluf which has a vibrant and busy nightlife for those looking to dance till the morning.

Cala Mayor Weather and Climate

Based on the coast of Majorca, Cala Mayor enjoys very good weather and the waters benefit also staying warm through the summer months. Situated off the coast the resort welcomes a slight breeze cooling residents from time to time. Cala Mayor’s beach is the place to be in the peak months of the summer and will become busy, which is why it has been extended over the last few years.

The winter period is not as hot but maintains good weather as opposed to the British Isles during the same period and has barely a fraction of the rainfall, but the breeze coming in off the sea makes things a little chillier.
