The younger tourists often gather around the Playas de la Americas in Tenerife and Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote, where clubs and pubs remain open all night long till the dawn breaks. In contrast to them, if you need to relax in a calm environment, then Los Cristianos and Las Galletas are the places for you, which feature bars, cafés and shops, and a more chilled atmosphere.
Many companies offer boat cruises to take in the beautiful coastline, you may also catch a glimpse of dolphins and even whales, this is a great day out and most trips include food, drink and a quick swim.
There are a number of other adrenaline filled activities like Bungee jumping, Go-karting and Paragliding.
Many visitors enjoy a ride on a hot air balloon which is attached to the ground by a cable, which offers you a bird’s eye of the beautiful islands. Popular water sports and activities include scuba diving, windsurfing, surfing, snorkelling, diving, jet-skiing, parasailing and riding on banana boats and doughnuts.
For the more leisurely traveller why not take the cable car through the volcanic valleys reaching the peak of El Tiede, it can get abit chilly in such high altitude so remember some warm clothes and a camera for the stunning views.
Weather and Climate
As the location is off the west coast of Africa the Canary Islands benefit from warm sea currents that give the islands a sub tropical climate.
Summers, which peak in the month of August, have an average temperature of 30°C, and offers 12 hours of sunshine a day, a dream come true for those who expect to get a nice tan after they leave the islands.
Winters are pleasant as well, and even in the peak winter months of January, the average temperature remain on the 20°C mark, with at least 5 hours of sunshine. You can enjoy the best weather in the Canary Islands if you stay somewhere next to the coastline. Especially in the southern parts of the archipelago, which is the reason why most of the tourists go on holidays to the Canaries. You will mostly find clear weather and sunshine throughout the year. Rainfall is rare, and is likely in the period between the month of November and March.
