Cala Portinatx – Tailor Made For Tourists
In the north of the Spanish island of Ibiza you will find the modern resort of Cala Portinatx, set in amongst breathtaking landscape and picturesque woodlands that cover the faces of the surrounding hills.
The beaches around the resort have clear blue waters and beautiful white sands, which seem to be run of the mill for these Balearic Islands. The surroundings of Cala Portinatx are more suited to families and couples as it provides a more relaxed atmosphere and the shallow waters at the beaches make them safe for children to play. With three beaches to choose from, S’Arenal Gros the largest, you have plenty of options to choice from in this well known beauty spot.
There is plenty of good family accommodation available all with luxury and reasonably priced rooms available.
Cala Portinatx is in a good location if you plan to travel the island with regular bus and ferry services willing to take you to various towns across the island.
Cala Portinatx – Fun and Activities
With Cala Portinatx being more of a modern resort there are many activities to get stuck into, albeit mainly family orientated. The sea offers a lot to do with many excursions available such as para-gliding, windsurfing, pedalo’s for hire, scuba diving and snorkelling. You can also get tours to see some of the coral reefs, tropical fish and a submerged shipwreck that fill the local waters.
There are a couple of water parks on the island and both are in close proximity. The closest to Cala Portinatx is in Talamanca the other, larger water park is in Playa Den Bossa.
There are two golf courses on the island, the Ibiza golf club, offering 18 holes, and the Roca Llisa, offering 9.
Some venues will offer Spanish dancing lessons at night where you will be shown some routines and have the chance to imitate them.
Island tours are available from most hotel reps and these trips will help you explore everything the island has to offer from shopping and restaurants to wildlife adventures. In fact, one of the main attractions to many people are the shops in the shopping centre.
There are plenty of nearby opportunities available to keep the kids happy also with arcades, waterslides, a bowling alley and other activities dotted around the resort.
Cala Portinatx – Food and Nightlife
Cala Portinatx offers a lot of restaurants with great variety of international cuisine on selection, including Spanish, English, Italian and Chinese. There are some restaurants that have seafood focused menus using freshly caught fish from the surrounding Mediterranean.
Ibiza is well known for its party culture and Cala Portinatx is blessed with a really good nightlife but is still in keeping with the family nature of the resort. Family fun in the area is pretty much hotel based.
Although most bars welcome families in the area, it is perhaps the best option, to get them home before it gets to late and loud. Cala Portinatx offers a good night out with its good selection of bars with live shows and music. There is also access to some of the super clubs on the island such as Space. The resort is not as lively as the likes of San Antonio but it is certainly entertaining.
Cala Portinatx - Weather Info
Cala Portinatx gets weather that can only be described as superb, perhaps most obviously during the summer. You may find that September will see the decline of the best weather but you won’t see the lower temperatures till November.
With temperatures reaching as high as 30ºC during the height of summer this really is one of the best island resorts to visit. Between the months of June and September is when you’ll want to be aiming for when booking, with August being the best month to choose from. For most of the time during the summer months, Cala Portinatx will be seeing around 12 hours of daylight.
Through winter you expect the resort to be empty as there are little numbers of people holidaying in the resort during that season, which I suppose could make it all that more relaxing if that is what you had in mind.
