Skala – South Coast of Greece

Head out to the beautiful resort of Skala, Greece, this summer and enjoy really laid back and relaxing holidays. Families and couples are the main source of tourists that head to the resort where they can spend their days on the golden beach or taking walks through the tremendous lush landscape.

Your transfer time from Kalamata International Airport will take an estimated 1 hour and 30 minutes, though this may seem a lengthy time you can take the chance to view the fantastic natural beauty that blesses this part of the country.

There is a wide range of accommodation to be found on holidays in Skala including hotels, studios and apartments. Skala apartments offer up plenty of budget accommodation where you can enjoy a self catering holiday, similar to the Skala studios. In the various Skala hotels you will find places rated between 2 to 5 stars all of which will be offering half board and self catering options for residents.

There is a great public transport system in the resort which offers buses that will take you to other nearby resorts including Argostoli. You will also find taxis in the area which are quicker but more expensive. Many families choose to hire a car to help with getting out and seeing the countryside at their own pace.

Skala – Fun & Activities

While there is plenty to do in Skala, Greece has plenty of natural beauty which when explored can often be the greatest part of a holiday. Head down to the beach and experience some very clean golden sands and crystal clear waters which are the perfect place to spend the day. Spend hours working on your tan this summer or get involved with one of the various waters sports on offer around the beach, such as surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skiing or hiring out a pedal boat. You can also find boat trips heading out from the beach taking you along the south coast and to some of the Greek Islands.

At night time organised turtle watches are very popular with tourists who enjoy seeing exotic wildlife in action. Perhaps you may be more interested in visiting the various historical sites found around the resort including the Roman ruins or the 7th century BC temple of Apollo. Daily excursions to Drogarati Cave, St Andreas Monastery and St Georges Castle are also cultural options for tourists to enjoy. Some trips go further than the local area and you can also visit the likes of Olympia on a day trip.

If shopping is a key part of your holidays then you will have plenty of places to go to including the great mini markets where you can pick up some unique souvenirs. There are also a few clothing outlets to pick up a few things too.

Skala – Food & Nightlife

When it comes to picking a place to eat in Skala you will find plenty that are serving traditional Greek food and others serving popular international cuisines including Italian and British. There are plenty of cafes to enjoy a bite to eat during the day and Skala hotels will also provide plenty of snacks and meals for their residents.

Although the general feel to the resort is relaxing and quite calm there are still a few good places to enjoy a drink or two on the evening. Choose from bars serving great cocktails and playing live music which stay open to quite late in the evening. There is even an open air nightclub to try if you want to dance long into the night.

During summer you can expect the south coast to experience great weather and you can enjoy it in Skala, Greece summers are very warm. Summers will see the temperatures climb to as high as 27°C, especially during the peak months of July and August where the sun will shine for 12 hours. The long sunny days mean that you will be able to enjoy a holiday with cloudless skies and endless sun during summer.

Other times of the year still enjoy some great weather with temperatures rarely dropping below 10°C even during the winter period. Between November and February is when you can expect the most of the year’s rainfall to come and the hours of sunshine will drop to 6, though the climate still remains fairly humid.
