Quarteira – South Coast of Portugal
The fantastic resort of Quarteira has been popular with families and couples who are looking to enjoy a fun but relaxing holiday. The beaches in Quarteira are long and filled with golden sands, perfect for the hot summers.
You can expect the transfer time from Faro Airport will be no longer than 30 minutes, during this time you can enjoy the natural beauty of the area as you are travelling. The short transfer time allows you to begin your holiday almost as soon as those tyres hit the ground.
The accommodation on offer is directed towards the more frequent travellers to the region so you can expect a lot of the services and facilities to cater well for families. There are plenty of hotels and apartments offering self catering and all are rated between 2 and 3 stars.
There is a regular bus service available in Quarteira which will take you around the Algarve to other resorts. Taxis are also available but will of course cost extra than using the bus, most families are recommend to try getting a hire car if they feel the need to travel out of the resort.
Quarteira – Fun & Activities
The beach really is the place to be during summer as the golden sands of Quarteira is the perfect place to enjoy the very high temperatures. If things do get a little hot then you can always take a refreshing dip into the Atlantic Ocean to cool you down. The beach also offers up plenty of great water sports to keep you busy during the day such as water skiing, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and paragliding is available around the beach area.
Away from the beach the most popular activity in the area is golf, this may come as little surprise to those who are familiar to the Algarve. You will find many golf courses in the area that are there for tourists to come and enjoy, and you will find that a round or two of golf is the perfect way to enjoy Quarteira’s beautiful scenery. Another way to enjoy the landscape is by heading out on a jeep safari or a coastal tour which takes you into Spain.
There is an excursion that takes in the Portuguese capital Lisbon where you can enjoy some great sightseeing in the form of various historical and cultural monuments and landmarks. Whilst in the capital you should take advantage of the shop as you will find plenty of designer names on clothes, jewellery and electrical goods. The shopping in Quarteira is decent but doesn’t match up to Lisbon.
Quarteira – Food & Nightlife
Dining in Quarteira is fantastic offering cuisine from various countries in different restaurants. On an evening you will have the choice of British, French, Portuguese, Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants. There are a few excellent seafood restaurants to try whilst in Quarteira. The food in the resort offers so much to cater for the large amount of tourists and their different tastes.
When night falls and adults are looking for an extended night then you can head to the bars and nightclubs found in the resort, there you can enjoy some music and cocktails. There are a few disco’s where you can dance well into the morning hours too. The addition of a casino in the resort means that you have options when it comes to evening entertainment.

Quarteira experiences some of the best weather in Europe, something that most resorts in the Algarve are blessed with. The summer is the best time to visit and when you will enjoy the highest temperatures. In the peak months of July and August you can expect things to higher than 30°C. During the summer period you will enjoy around 12 hours of sunshine each and every day, which is plenty of time to work on your tan. The only relief from the heat comes in the form of a cool breeze that blows in from the Atlantic Ocean.
The winters in Quarteira are still very mild with the temperature rarely ever dropping below 15°C which makes the resort a perfect place to visit all year round. During December and January is when you can expect the lowest temperatures, the hours of sunshine will be around 6 hours during those months also. March is the wettest month of the year, something to take into consideration when booking up.
