Tavira – South Coast of Portugal
The city of Tavira is found in the popular Algarve region located in the south of Portugal, this city in particular lies very close to the Spanish border. Families and couples enjoy this pleasant resort because of the beautiful surroundings and relaxed atmosphere. The resort offers a long beach with golden sands to enjoy.
Your transfer time coming from Faro Airport will take around 40 minutes and during this time you can see all the natural delights that the Algarve has.

You will find that the public transport in the area is quite good with various buses taking you to various nearby resorts. Taxis are also available but of course a little more expensive and you can even take a mini train some distance.

There are many small rivers that lead down to the beach if you are unsure of how to get there, when you’re there you can spend the best part of the day simply relaxing under the sun or taking a swim in the light blue sea. There aren’t too many water sports available on the beach but if you do want some lively activities the beaches of other resorts near Faro will provide plenty of fun.
Many people enjoy relaxing whilst in Tavira and the best way to do it is to simply take a walk out into the beautiful countryside or perhaps stroll around the city and discover some hidden gems like shops and restaurants. On your travels you are sure to see much culture like in the historical centre of Tavira where there are many churches to admire.
The Parque Natural da Ria Formosa is a must visit when in Tavira, at any given time you can see Flamingos, Storks and King Fishers among others who nest here along migrating routes. The park is very popular with tourists and bird watchers as it offers a fantastic chance to get up close and personal with nature.
Excursions out of the town are quite popular and you can go as far as Seville for a fun day trip, whilst there you may want to do a bit of shopping in the various designer boutiques. You can also visit other interesting sites in the Algarve area like the Silves and Moorish capital, Loule market and the Monchique Mountains. Shopping in Tavira is minimal and you will find places selling clothes and souvenirs mainly.

There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy a fine family meal or a romantic evening with that special someone. The cuisine most popular in the area is seafood and you will have plenty of opportunities to try some. There are many popular international dishes on offer in the various British, Portuguese, Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants found throughout the resort.
If you have chosen to spend your holidays in Tavira you should be well aware that there is not much of a nightlife here as the resort is much more focused on families and tourists looking for a calm atmosphere. That said, you can enjoy live music and shows within some of the hotels and there is one club to try out in the city.

The southern regions of Portugal offer the best weather in the country no matter what time of year it is, this is why the Algarve resorts are so popular. The best time to visit Tavira has to be the summer when the temperatures are at their highest. The hottest summer months are July and August during which you can expect the temperatures to reach 30°C at times. Mix high temperatures with 12 hours of sunshine a day and you get clear blue skies all during your summer holiday.
While the autumn, winter and spring seasons won’t be as warm as the summer the temperatures still won’t go any lower than 15°C. The hours of sunshine will be reduced to around 6 hours at the worst of times but that still means you can enjoy plenty of warm sun during the day. Heading into spring the temperatures will begin to rise up to and past 20°C, though the month of March will see the most rain over the course of the year.
