Mijas Overview

Mijas Holidays from CheapHolidays.com.

Based in Spain’s very popular Coast del Sol you will find the pleasant and relaxing resort of Mijas. You will find the resort located at the foot of the mountains that look over the Costa del Sol region and Mijas is one of those typically delightful white-washed towns that are synonymous with Spanish holidays. Popular with families and couples looking for a quiet retreat, this resort offers an estimated 6 miles of beach to help such tourists enjoy their holiday.

The very quick transfer time from Malaga Airport is just around 30 minutes which means you be enjoying your holiday in Mijas as soon as you land. It always a clever idea to try and take in some of the surroundings on your transfer so that you can try and understand a little and know your way round better, plus the beautiful scenery is something that can’t be ignored.

There are plenty of great places to choose from when you are looking for accommodation in Mijas. The hotels in the region will range from 3 to 5 stars but there are some budget hotels too, all of which offer great facilities to its guests.

You can expect to find a very reliable bus service during the day in Mijas that will take you to other popular resorts around the Costa del Sol such as Malaga, Marbella and Torremolinos. You could take a donkey taxi around the resort, though I wouldn’t expect it to take you to neighbouring towns.

Mijas – Fun & Activities

Family on holidayHead out to the coast and you will find a long stretch of beautiful sandy beach where you enjoy the best hours of the sun, as well as warm waters worth taking a swim in. If you have too much energy to just lay back and relax then you might enjoy the various activities found along the beach, things such as surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing and jet skiing.

By taking a simple walk around Mijas you can enjoy the delightful architecture native to Spain, and perhaps a bit more interesting is the Roman ruins and the museum of miniatures. There is also a quaint old village nearby where many tourists enjoy taking a relaxing stroll through to appreciate the normal Spanish way of life. Tennis is a very popular sport and you can enjoy a couple of sets in the fine faculties at Miraflores.

There are plenty of chances to enjoy a shopping spree in Mijas for those who enjoy that as their favourite activity. You will be able to purchase plenty of clothes and jewellery as well as souvenirs in the various shops in the resort. If you are looking for something a touch better then you should certainly consider taking a trip to Marbella, there you will find a Versace boutique.

Mijas – Food & Nightlife

Couple on an all inclusive holiday You will find a wide range of restaurants to choose from when it’s time to dine, there are some exclusive restaurants in the area that you should try and get a table at if only the once. The majority of places will serve Spanish dishes but there are Chinese and Italian restaurants to choose from also.

While the region is geared towards families and couples looking to getaway and relax you will find that the evening entertainment on offer will provide tourists with much to enjoy. There are bars to enjoy evenings in and during summer you may even get caught up in the many outdoor shows including flamenco nights. Of course you could head to the likes of Torremolinos or Fuengirola for a very late night.

Mijas Weather and Climate

The fantastic weather on offer in Mijas is at its best over the summer months where you can expect the temperature to average around 22°C, though at times it will climb as high as 30°C. The hottest months to visit are July and August where even the water will be 23°C during the day. Summer see’s over 10 hours of glorious sunshine a day so tourists have many opportunities to work on their tan.

When winter hits the Costa del Sol the temperatures are affected, but the temperatures will rarely fall below 16°C which is hotter than a lot of summers in some countries. You can enjoy warm days during winter in Mijas and the rain is never too frequent and clears up very quickly.
