The transfer time from Heraklion Airport will take between one and a half to two hours, but during this time you will be able to view the islands fantastic natural scenery on your journey.

You will find a fine public transport system on your Rethymnon holiday which offers buses that will take tourists into nearby resorts such as Heraklion, Chania and Aghios Nikoloas. Car hire is also popular with families as it makes travel easier.

The history and culture on a Rethymnon holiday is there to be enjoyed and by taking simple walks around the town you will be able to discover its various delights. There is a fortress, mosques, churches, 16th century monastery and even an archaeological museum where you can discover plenty about the town and its history on the island. Head to the City Park during July and you can take part in the town’s annual wine festival.

Excursions out of Rethymnon are a great way to explore as much of the island as possible during your holiday, buses to nearby resorts or mini cruises along the coast taking you to similar resorts but in a much more scenic way. The shopping in Rethymnon is good and you will find plenty of shops selling clothes, jewellery and souvenirs, the fact that you might be spending a day in other areas also opens up the potential for varied shopping.

Summer is the best time to take a Rethymnon holiday because it experiences the best weather, of course, with the exact months stretching from April to October. The hottest summer month is August during this time you can expect temperatures to go as high 27°C. The best place to enjoy the coastal town’s weather is down at Rethymnon beach where you can experience 13 hours of constant sunshine.

During winter the temperature will of course fall though things shouldn’t get lower than 12°C which means you enjoy a warm climate. The hours of sunshine are reduced also going down to around 4 hours. The most of the rainfall comes during winter also with January and February seeing the most of it. Towards spring the temperatures pick up again in advance of summer.
