So September is beginning to feel like November and I keep thinking about a holiday in Lanzarote, or anywhere in the Canaries for that matter. The summer of 2009 never really got going. This seems to be a trend based on the last three years.

Like many people this year I was lured by the sales pitch of a “staycation”.  I never took my holiday abroad and now I am regretting it. So I have convinced myself that for medicinal purposes, and hang the bank manager, I will take my summer holiday in Lanzarote in December.

It is clear that I am not alone. Many of us have held off. Now I have talked myself into a holiday in Lanzarote. When will I book? Will prices fall the nearer I get to December or will the sudden rush in demand mean that I lose that opportunity, or it becomes too expensive?

Many in the industry expect the trend in last minute bookings to continue, but for me the lure of that sun and the warmth is too difficult to resist. Credit card in hand I am off to book my holiday in Lanzarote. I need the certainty of a booking to bolster me for another few months.

With prices at an all-time low, the only thing that may prevent more of us escaping this winter is the lousy exchange rate. I am hoping that picks up before I head off to my holiday in Lanzarote.

Is the ”staycation” going to turn into a ”mass winter evacuation”? With prices the way they are, it’s going to be hard for many of us to resist and wait it out till next summer. I predict a stampede.
