Off-road driving is a very popular activity through the desert. Vehicles can be hired with or without guides and safaris can be taken into the wilderness. Dubai is one of the top golfing destinations, with venues such as the Emirates Golf Club which regularly holds top international competitions. Deep-sea fishing is another activity that many people enjoy and fully equipped boats can be hired in Dubai. Snorkelling and scuba diving are probably two of the most popular activities for holiday makers. There are plenty of hidden caves, shipwrecks and an array of marine life for you to explore from many of the beaches in the country. Relaxing along the beaches is also very popular as is relaxing by a pool. There are many historic mosques in the older parts of some cities, as well as a number of museums. The scenery in Abu Dhabi and Dubai is very popular and a camel market and zoo make them both good destinations for children as well. Don't miss the many historic mosques and forts dotted around the older parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, notably the former's massive Grand Mosque and White Fort, and Dubai's Al-Fahidi Fort, which houses the Dubai Museum. There are numerous boat trips being offered that enable you to explore some of the 200 islands of Abu Dhabi. Ras al-Khaimah is a good plac to visit, where you will see view over the coast and the Hajar Mountains. Discover the more remote stretches of coastline: there are trips available to the natural harbour at Dibba and the beautiful Khor Kalba, one of the most famous shell beaches in the world. Dubai's Palm Islands are said to be visible from the moon and form the largest manmade islands in the world. Hafit Mountain is worth a visit, with ancient tombs, pottery and swords.
United Arab Emirates – a range of cuisines available
The United Arab Emirates are great lovers of fresh fruit and vegetable so you are likely to find a lot of this here. Seafood is a favourite and is always freshly caught and cooked with fresh vegetables. Hotels serve Arab and European foods and you will also find a number of Chinese and Indian restaurants. Tipping is not necessary as most hotels and restaurants already add on fairly high service charges to bills. There are a number of nightclubs in the major centres that stay open until late, as well as cocktail lounges and English style pubs. There are plenty of shows put on for entertainment purposes, some of which are performed by international pop stars. Some hotels will also organise discos. Luxury goods are cheaper here than in other countries as custom duties are low. Leather goods, clothing, jewellery and souvenirs can all be found here.
United Arab Emirates Weather and Climate
Between May and September, temperatures will be extremely hot, ranging from 34-37°C. Sandstorms have been known to occur during these months so from Mid-October to April is probably a better time to visit. Temperatures are still hot in some months and more mild in others such as January. Rainfall occurs occasionally in these months, however it is not a lot and is normally over very quickly. The climate is hot and humid along the coast and is hotter still, but dry, in the interior. Rainfall averages only 4 to 6 inches annually, though it fluctuates considerably from year to year. The average January temperature is 18 °C, while in July the temperature averages 33°C. Summertime highs can reach 46 °C on the coast and 49 °C or more in the desert. In midwinter and early summer, winds known as the shamāl (Arabic: “norther”) blow from the north and northwest, bearing dust and sand.
